2. Defense still in tip-top shape

While the offense lagged during the 2021 season, the defense was one of the best units in the league. They finished the season ranked as the fourth best overall defense and were it not for their defense, the team definitely doesn’t finish with a winning record.

Despite the Saints losing big names such as Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins in free agency, they managed to keep their defense strong. The additions of Marcus Maye and Tyrann Mathieu should keep the secondary as a stellar unit that can keep the NOLA defense as one of the league’s best.

While offenses get all of the love in the NFL, we’ve seen how far a team can get with a great defense. New Orleans might have lost some key players on the defensive side of the ball but they found solid replacements for those guys and also are hopefully going to have a healthy Payton Turner and Tanoh Kpassagnon this year as well.

The defense was one of the few bright spots for the Saints last season and it should continue to be that way in 2022.
