The New Orleans Saints roster looks decent for the most part. Which three positions does Mike Clay of ESPN project as the weak links?

Every offseason, ESPN’s Mike Clay releases grades for every team’s unit. The recent update of his unit grades took place on Tuesday and there are three positions for the New Orleans Saints that he deems as weak. The highest possible score is 3.0 and anything below 2 is worrisome.

The three weak positions, however, are quarterback, tight end, and defensive interior. At quarterback, Clay gave the Saints a 1.3 and they’re the only team with a less-than-favorable QB grade ranked in the top 15. Most of the teams with lower QB markings than the Saints are at the bottom of the pact and this makes sense given how important the position is.

Tight end is considered the biggest weakness with a measly score of 1.0. The only teams with lower marks are the Giants, Buccaneers, Texans, Panthers, Broncos, and Colts. This comes as no surprise to Saints fans as none of their tight ends have proven themselves to be legitimate options.

The defensive interior received a 1.4 and that’s a bit surprising. The defensive line as a whole played well last year and Shy Tuttle and David Onyemata have both played well there. Both guys are hitting free agency next offseason so I’d understand if this grade was put in place this time next year.

Saints weak links are QB, TE, and IDL

Tight end is the position I agree with the most when it comes to weak links. The team didn’t make any upgrades at the position and is hoping that Adam Trautman finally rounds the corner and becomes the threat they were hoping for when they made him a third-round pick.

Quarterback is a position that I don’t agree with but I understand why Jameis Winston as the starter is near the bottom. He has yet to lead a team to the playoffs and is still most known for throwing 30 interceptions during the 2019 season when he was with the Buccaneers.

Every team has weaknesses on its roster and these appear to be the three biggest weaknesses for the New Orleans Saints. Do you agree?
