Training camp is just around the corner, and the New Orleans Saints are getting ready to try to rebound from a 2021 season that was filled with ups and downs.

However, the Saints have been actively bringing in top talent to improve the offense and the defense. It is never a bad idea to add depth to the roster.

Here are a few free agents that New Orleans should consider signing before the 2022 training camp starts.

Anthony Barr is a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker with a skillset the Saints could use. The team is pretty thin at the linebacker position with not too many playmakers. All-Pro linebacker DeMario Davis is a guy that brings it every game, and second-year linebacker Pete Werner has shown flashes that warrant the team drafting him in the second round in the 2021 NFL Draft last year.

Adding a veteran like Barr would improve the Saints linebacker room immediately. Barr is a sideline-to-sideline linebacker that plays the game with a lot of energy and physicality. He has registered 388 tackles and 16 sacks in his career.

Barr is also a leader. He was named the Minnesota Vikings team captain for five-plus seasons and he still has plenty left in the tank. In 2021, Barr totaled 72 tackles (38 solo), 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and five pass defenses across 11 games.

The fact that he could put up this stat line while dealing with a string of injuries is impressive. If the Saints could land the 30-year-old linebacker before the start of training camp, not only would he be a great addition to the team, but he would be a part of the Saints’ starting rotation.
