Saints Roster: 3 breakout candidates for 2022 season
2. Marcus Davenport
The next player that can have a huge season in 2022 is Saints’ defensive end Marcus Davenport. Davenport, 25, is a mammoth of an edge rusher as he stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 265 pounds. Davenport, who was the No. 14 overall pick by the New Orleans Saints back in 2018, has yet to reach his full potential with the team.
Marcus Davenport is entering a contract year for the Saints in 2022 and he can have a season similar to the one we saw from Trey Hendrickson a couple of years ago. Davenport will be looking to ball out in hopes of securing a monster contract this offseason, and double-digit sack totals are not out of his range of possibility.
Davenport, despite only playing in 11 games with the Saints in 2021, logged nine sacks and set himself a new career-high in that stat category. If the former first-round pick can stay healthy, he and Cameron Jordan could form a nearly unstoppable defensive end tandem.
Davenport, to put it simply, needs to prove why he was worth an early first-round draft pick, and this is the season for him to show it.
