These five New Orleans Saints are next in line for the team to consider extending. Some are slated to hit free agency next year and others are still under contract past 2023.

The New Orleans Saints are no strangers to rewarding their key players for their hard work. Last offseason, they inked both Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk to extensions and those were moves that the fan base applauded the organization for doing.

5. Marcus Davenport

A year ago, writing that Marcus Davenport deserves an extension would have been laughable but the former first-rounder finally showed why he was a first-round pick during his third season. Davenport still struggled with injuries and missed six games, he had a career-high 9.0 sacks and made the Saints look smart for picking up his fifth-year option.

Had they not done that, Davenport probably signs elsewhere this offseason. Now the Saints can reap the benefits of another year from the UTSA product and hope that he takes advantage of a contract year.

If the Saints don’t want to risk Davenport putting together a solid season and then getting plucked away by another team, they could opt to extend him now. He’s injury-prone and it took him three years to get going so Davenport might be fine with signing an extension now instead of risking a lackluster season.
