New Orleans Saints way-too-early 2023 three-round mock draft
New Orleans Saints add defensive and offensive player in mock
It’s going to be hard to get as into these mock drafts without a first-round pick but the Saints put themselves in that situation. They did put those two first-rounders from 2022 to good use, adding Chris Olave and Trevor Penning to the offense and adding to positions of need.
If the Saints took Calijah Kancey in the second round, it’d help shore up their defensive line, which could end up losing Marcus Davenport, David Onyemata, and Shy Tuttle, which would mean only Cameron Jordan would be returning as a starter on the d-line. Yes, Payton Turner should be able to fill Davenport’s shoes but the team needs to find replacements for the other two.
Grayson McCall might not be a popular pick in the third round but whether Jameis Winston plays well or not well, the team might be forced to spend an early-round pick on a quarterback. McCall isn’t someone they’d thrust into the spotlight as a rookie but he could look to take over in 2024.
It’s hard to do mock drafts this early on because we don’t know what’s going to transpire this season and who’s staying with the team past the 2022 season. That also makes it fun though because you can take whoever you want.
These two picks would help the New Orleans Saints build a brighter future and that’s what needs to happen in the draft.
