Sage Doxtater is entering his first year on the New Orleans Saints roster. What should fans expect from the UDFA out of New Mexico State?

The New Orleans Saints added plenty of talent through undrafted free agency and one of those goes by the name of Sage Doxtater. New Mexico State might not be a powerhouse for producing NFL talent but NOLA obviously saw something in Doxtater to bring him in and compete for a spot on their offensive line.

Doxtater spent most of his time with the Aggies at left tackle and while he’s not someone who will be starting (if he does, something has gone horribly wrong) he could eventually end up being a project at the position.

Saints Roster: What should fans expect from Sage Doxtater in 2022?

As of now, Doxtater is probably the fourth-string left tackle on the roster behind rookie Trevor Penning, James Hurst, and Ethan Greenidge. Penning and Hurst will be the two battling it out for the starting job, which Penning certainly has the edge at. Meanwhile, Doxtater will be hoping to edge out Greenidge for the third-string job.

As I mentioned above, Doxtater isn’t someone who will probably find his way onto the field during the regular season but he could be stashed on the practice squad and used as a reserve for the years to come.

The Saints’ offensive line will have some growing pains this year due to the loss of Terron Armstead. They drafted Penning to step in and fill that void but it’s a tough ask of a rookie to start at left tackle and even a bigger ask to ask him to provide what Armstead provided.

Doxtater won’t play into the left tackle competition and a realistic expectation for him this year is to hang out on the practice squad and maybe get a late-season call-up to the 53-man roster if injuries occur. Otherwise, it’s doubtful that fans will see much of the New Mexico State product.
