1. Erik McCoy

This one pains me but it feels like it’ll be difficult for the Saints to keep Erik McCoy past the 2022 season. The former second-round pick out of Texas A&M has been a tremendous addition to the New Orleans offensive line and unfortunately, he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.

During his first two years with the team, McCoy didn’t miss a start. Last year, however, he missed five games and we saw how underwhelming the o-line was without him. It forced Cesar Ruiz to slide in at center and I don’t think I need to go into detail about how that went.

McCoy is only going to be 25 years old when he hits free agency in March. Teams are going to jump at the chance to pay a 25-year-old center the money he deserves.

Hopefully, the Saints can extend McCoy before the season begins but if not, he’s someone who could be snatched up by another team in free agency. Solid centers don’t grow on trees so if the Saints don’t put in the effort to keep McCoy, another team will put in the effort to steal him away.

Let’s hope the Saints can find a way to keep Erik McCoy in the Big Easy.
