1. Erik McCoy

The biggest name hitting free agency for the Saints next offseason is Erik McCoy. NOLA spent a second-round pick on McCoy in the 2019 NFL Draft and he’s been the best center they could ask for after Max Unger retired. He stepped in as a rookie and kept the Saints’ o-line a well-oiled machine.

We saw just how important McCoy was to this offensive line when he missed five games in 2021 due to injury. Cesar Ruiz slid in at center and well… It didn’t go well.

Good offensive linemen are expensive in today’s NFL and McCoy is not only good, but still in the prime of his career. He’s entering his age-25 season and that will make it incredibly difficult for the Saints to keep him in the Big Easy.

Out of all of the Saints’ free agents slated to hit the open market when the 2022 season is in the books, Erik McCoy is the one the team needs to try to keep the most. He’s a difference-maker on the offensive line.
