2. Payton Turner

With their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Saints selected Payton Turner out of Houston. Fans are used to being stunned on draft day by the black and gold but Turner was a pretty surprising pick.

Unfortunately for Turner, he couldn’t stay healthy as a rookie. He appeared in just five games during the 2021 season and had 12 tackles and one sack during that time.

With Turner not seeing the field much as a rookie due to injuries, fans have sort of forgotten about him but they shouldn’t. He’s behind Marcus Davenport on the depth chart and with Davenport — another former first-round surprise pick by NOLA — entering the final year of his Saints contract, Turner will be looking to step up to show that he can hold down the fort.

Turner had 10.5 tackles for loss and five sacks during the 2020 college football season so he’s shown that he can disrupt the passer. If he can stay healthy, fans will see why the team spent a first-round pick on the Houston product.
