Likeable Saints player No. 2: Mark Ingram

Name a more dynamic backfield duo than Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. We’ll wait.

Ingram rejoined the Saints in 2021 after a two-and-a half-year stint that saw him play for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. The fan-favorite running back couldn’t stay away from NOLA for long, and assuming he remains on the roster in 2022, he easily ranks as one of the most likable players on the Saints.

Ingram’s most productive season came during his electric pairing with Kamara in 2017, when Ingram rushed for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns and then-rookie Kamara added 728 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 32-year-old has since been eclipsed by Kamara in terms of production and starting potential, and after recording just 260 rushing yards in 2021, Ingram’s career may be coming to a close. In 2022, Ingram faces RB2 competition from younger talents like Tony Jones Jr. and Abram Smith, and there’s a slim chance he may not make the starting roster after training camp.

Regardless of what his future holds, Ingram has cemented his place in history as the franchise’s all-time rushing leader (for now). Fans can only hope he hangs up his cleats as a Saint having given NOLA nine years of sweat, love, tears, and unforgettable moments.
