The New Orleans Saints traded up from the 16th spot to the 11th spot in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft to select Ohio State’s Chris Olave. He’s going to be a star in the Big Easy.

It wasn’t a secret entering the 2022 NFL Draft that the New Orleans Saints needed some help at wide receiver. They were getting Michael Thomas back after he missed all of the 2021 season but it was clear that Tre’Quan Smith wasn’t starting material and that Marquez Callaway also might be better in a backup role.

With that in mind, the Saints put the first of their two selections in the first round to good use, grabbing Chris Olave out of Ohio State. Olave put up 936 yards and 13 touchdowns during his final year with the Buckeyes and the Saints can’t wait to see him put up that kind of production while donning the black and gold.

The Saints have continued to build their offense this offseason, also adding Jarvis Landry to their WR room, giving them a solid trio at the position for the first time in ages.

Saints WR Chris Olave is a rising star

The NFLPA released their list of rising stars for the 2022 season and it wasn’t shocking to see Olave make an appearance. What this list essentially means is that these players are expected to put together impressive rookie campaigns, which will lead to more merchandise sales and that checks out when looking at the players in the top 10.

The five names ahead of Olave, who came in at No. 6, are Kenny Pickett, Drake London, Ahmad Gardner, Aidan Hutchinson, and Garrett Wilson (Olave’s teammate at Ohio State who went one pick ahead of him to the Jets). Rounding out the top 10 are Kayvon Thibodeaux, Kenneth Walker, Desmond Ridder, and Malik Willis.

It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see Olave become one of the biggest rookie names during the 2022 season. He’s joining now what looks to be a much-improved offensive unit and he’s going to make some noise in the Big Easy.
