Kicker: Wil Lutz

Reserves: John Parker Romo

There might not be a player that fans are more excited to see return to the roster this year than Wil Lutz. The former Georgia State kicker had made a name for himself as one of the best kickers in the league but then was sidelined for the entire 2021 season due to an injury. It was a huge blow for the Saints and the team suffered as a result.

This stat below from NOF really puts things into perspective. New Orleans’ kicking game was a constant struggle throughout the 2021 season but Lutz is back now!

When we last saw Lutz in 2020, he had capped off a season in which he put together an 82.1 field goal percentage and 98.3 extra-point percentage. He missed five field goals and just one extra point during that 2020 season.

While Lutz might take some time to be that same dominant kicker we know and love, having him back is better than the alternative and we saw that play out last year.

The only other kicker on the roster is John Parker Romo, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech. He had a field goal percentage of 81.8 last year and went a perfect 34-for-34 on extra points. He’s a nice backup option to have if Lutz can’t get comfortable and in the swing of things right away.

Make no mistake, though, this is Lutz’s job.
