1. Lucas Krull

Lucas Krull has become the true camp favorite in 2022. Krull is an undrafted rookie out of Pittsburgh and is making a name for himself. Krull is a 6’6″ 260-pound tight end with a very strong skillset.

His route running ability at his size has a lot of Saints fans remembering great tight-end playmakers from years past, names like Jeremy Shockey and Benjamin Watson.

The tight end position for the Saints is maybe the most intriguing position battle heading into training camp. You have to believe the position is up for grabs after no player was ability to establish themselves as the true alpha last season.

  • Adam Trautman was supposed to be the guy, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations.
  • Nick Vannett, a guy the Saints brought in to be a threat, hasn’t been available. He missed 10 games last season and didn’t make much of an impact when he was available.
  •  Juwan Johnson, who switched from receiver to tight end in 2021, is still learning how to play the position.

Krull is a guy that plays with a lot of confidence. He is not a guy that is afraid to get his hand dirty, and could develop into a match-up nightmare. Krull’s toughness is what tight end play is all about. Krull will be a part of the Saints’ 53-man roster in 2022 and truthfully, it would not be a surprise if he ends up being a starter.
