The New Orleans Saints roster has plenty of talented running backs on it but a name that isn’t being discussed as much is a guy who has spent a fair amount of time with the organization — Devine Ozigbo.

Fans might recognize Ozigbo’s name and it’d make sense as to why — He spent time with the team last season. Even after a stint with the Patriots, the former Nebraska Cornhusker is back in the Big Easy to try and stick on the roster.

For the first three years of his pro career, Ozigbo played for the Jaguars, rushing for 65 yards off 12 carries during his time in Jacksonville. He joined the Saints last October and appeared in two games for the black and gold. During that time, he carried the rock once, losing three yards on the play. He also hauled in one pass for seven yards.

Jeff Nowak noted that Ozigbo is an under-the-radar name to watch and says that the team bringing him back could indicate the team believes he could turn into something for them.

Saints Roster: Will Devine Ozigbo get to prove himself this year?

New Orleans is going to have to find some help at running back while Alvin Kamara is likely out serving a suspension. Mark Ingram is an obvious choice to slide in and help but he can’t do it all like Kamara can.

Behind Ingram, there are names like Tony Jones Jr. and popular UDFA Abram Smith, but as Nowak mentioned in his tweets, giving a big role to a rookie running back is a risky move.

Ozigbo isn’t a rookie and has spent time with this team in the past. He certainly could be someone the team trusts more while Kamara is out simply because he’s a veteran in the league. His stats might not be flashy to this point but this would be the time for him to prove himself.

The former Husker running back rushed for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns while hauling in another 203 yards through the air during his senior year in 2018. He went undrafted but in the right offense, he could definitely take off. The Saints could be that offense.
