Backups: Zack Baun and Kaden Elliss

Next up on the depth chart are Zack Baun and Kaden Elliss, two guys who have been with the Saints organization for the past few years.

Baun was a third-round pick in the 2020 draft out of Wisconsin and, to this point, has been a major disappointment. Baun hasn’t been used in the way he was during his Wisconsin tenure, however, so if the Saints decide to actually let him loose and rush the passer, maybe they’ll see better results there.

As for Elliss, he joined the Saints in 2019 after the team spent a seventh-round pick on him. He put up his best numbers last year, playing in 13 games and tallying 17 tackles and the first sack of his pro career.

This is a big year for Baun, who has yet to prove that he was worthy of spending a third-round on. Elliss has been a nice surprise for a seventh-rounder and is entering the final year of his rookie deal so there’s a big incentive for him to play well also.
