The New Orleans Saints had to make some tough decisions on which players they should keep and which they should move on from. In hindsight, it was probably the correct decision to let these four players sign elsewhere.

The Saints are no strangers to seeing their key contributors move on but for one reason or another, these four players landing elsewhere won’t cripple the team. In fact, not bringing these players back could end up being heavily applauded decisions down the road.

Let’s take a look at four players who the Saints were wise to not bring back.

4. Trevor Siemian

There really wasn’t much doubt that Trevor Siemian would be playing for another team in 2022 but it was official when he signed a one-year deal with the Bears. Siemian joined New Orleans last offseason and no one realistically thought he’d make the final roster.

Once Jameis Winston won the starting job, however, it made sense to have Siemian as a true backup behind Winston while Taysom Hill continued to do his offensive weapon role.

Siemian ended up seeing more playing time than what anyone was hoping for and while the losses weren’t all on him, he shouldered a lot of the blame. That’s what being a quarterback entails.

With Winston coming back and Andy Dalton signed to be his backup, there was no place for Siemian on this roster and the team absolutely made the right decision in moving on from him.
