Saints rookie Chris Olave is in a tremendous situation to succeed
The New Orleans Saints traded up five spots to nab Ohio State’s Chris Olave. They desperately needed a wide receiver to pair with Michael Thomas and now they have one of the best prospects coming out of this year’s draft class.
Marc Ross of NFL.com wrote an article about the 10 rookies in the best possible situations entering their pro career and Olave came in at No. 4 on Ross’ list.
Ross wrote:
"So it makes perfect sense that Mickey Loomis and Co. had their eyes on Olave, whose exceptional speed (4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine), hands and route-running ability will be on full display under offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., who’s been in that role with the team since the Super Bowl-winning 2009 season. With one of Jameis Winston’s biggest strengths being his downfield-passing ability, Olave has the perfect opportunity to make plays and become a game-changer from Day 1 as a field-stretcher."
Olave will be an instant contributor in this Saints offense, one that couldn’t do much a season ago.
Saints rookie Chris Olave set to make huge contributions
The biggest issue for the Saints’ offense last year was a lack of weapons for Jameis Winston to throw to and that won’t be the case now. Not only is Olave joining the offense but Jarvis Landry is going to be donning the black and gold this year as well.
Olave, as of this writing, has +1000 odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, per WynnBET, and it’s very doable in this new-look Saints offense. He finished under the 1,000-yard mark during his final season at Ohio State but found the end zone 13 times. Expect that kind of production in year 1 in the Big Easy.
"Saints Schedule: Way too early game-by-game predictions for 2022"
The Saints were a solid wide receiver group away from being a playoff team a season ago and now they have that. Olave should be one of the better offensive rookies in the league this year and he’s entering a great situation in New Orleans.
