The New Orleans Saints made a huge signing last week when they agreed to terms with Jarvis Landry. Fans are familiar with Landry, as he played his college ball at LSU, so having him back in the state of Louisiana is a thrill.

While the addition of Landry is a huge one for the Saints and makes some players very happy, others probably are a bit more anxious as we inch closer to training camp.

Here are the winners and losers from the Landry addition.

Winner: Jameis Winston

The obvious winner is the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, Jameis Winston. Some might point to last year as a reason why the Saints shouldn’t have kept at it with Winston but look at who the guy was throwing to during his seven starts.

Adding Landry and Chris Olave and also getting Michael Thomas back from injury is going to be a huge help for Winston. He’ll finally have the weapons he needs to make big plays and we’ve seen that he’s no stranger to doing that from his days in Tampa Bay.

Loser: Tre’Quan Smith

At one time, Tre’Quan Smith was somehow still listed as a starter on the Saints’ depth chart, per Our Lads. Even after they drafted Olave, Smith remained as the starting slot receiver while Thomas and Olave were the other two starters.

Now that Landry is going to don the black and gold, Smith no longer has a starting job on the roster. The team re-signed him this offseason after he didn’t take advantage of a contract year in 2021 and now he’ll be relegated to backup duties.
