Saints Schedule Rumors: Dennis Allen era to kick off vs. Falcons
With the NFL officially releasing the 2022 schedule tonight, we’re trying to cover all of the New Orleans Saints schedule rumors that we can!
While some have come from unreliable sources, this one is credible, as Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com discussed the news. That news is that the Saints will open their 2022 season against hated rival Atlanta, facing them in their home stadium.
This is an intriguing matchup for a few reasons but the obvious one is that it’ll pit the top two picks in the 2015 NFL Draft against each other. Jameis Winston went to Tampa Bay No. 1 overall while Marcus Mariota went to the Tennessee Titans No. 2 overall. Neither panned out with those teams and now they’re both in the NFC South (though Winston never left the division).
Another reason that this matchup could be fun is that New Orleans hasn’t faired well against the Falcons when they face them in Week 1 and this is the chance to turn that around. This is a new regime running the team and we’re going to see what they can do against the Dirty Birds.
Saints Schedule Rumors: Week 1 vs. Falcons
According to John Hendrix of Saints News Network/Sports Illustrated, the Saints will kick their season off against all three of their divisional rivals before heading to jolly ol’ England for a date with the Vikings. They shockingly don’t have a BYE week following that London game, with their BYE coming in Week 14, a really late BYE week for a team that’s used to having them early on.
Opening the season against the Falcons hasn’t gone particularly well for New Orleans but as mentioned above, this is a whole new team. Atlanta isn’t going to be competitive this year (or at least that’s the hope) so here’s to hoping the Saints take it to them in Week 1 and can start the season off with a victory.
