Writing about the New Orleans Saints’ 2021 season felt like trudging through mud, but looking ahead to the 2022 season reveals glimmers of hope.

Michael Thomas is back, hopefully for good.

Tyrann Mathieu is home and ready to compete for a championship.

The Sean Payton era has ended, but the Dennis Allen era begins on sure footing with the Saints’ team identity much more solidified this year.

It’s only May, and plenty could happen between now and the start of the season, but we wanted to dust off our crystal balls anyway and try to foresee what 2022 might look like.

Which players may rise to the occasion, and which players may fall down the depth chart? Some of these predictions are bold, others augur a more realistic future given the moves NOLA has made in the offseason so far.
