NOLA Saints gave Jameis Winston help for 2022

When Jameis Winston won the starting quarterback job last summer, fans felt optimistic that he could make them competitive. He showed in his seven starts that he could, which was impressive considering just how bad the weapons were on offense.

Winston’s best receiver option was Marquez Callaway, an undrafted free agent in 2020, and even then, Alvin Kamara was a better pass-catcher. With the injuries that occurred early on as well, the offensive line didn’t make Winston’s life any easier.

Well, in one fell swoop, the Saints managed to get their quarterback both an elusive wide receiver and a starting left tackle to protect his blindside. Chris Olave being paired with Michael Thomas now gives Winston two legitimate targets to throw to and Trevor Penning, assuming he wins the starting job, should provide the nastiness the o-line needs to protect their signal-caller.

Jameis Winston played well last year despite not having a healthy offensive line or weapons to throw to. Imagine how much better he’ll look in 2022 with those new additions to the team.
