2. Sam Howell, QB (North Carolina)

The quarterback class was looked at as a weaker one and that was proven true with only one signal-caller going in the first two rounds. We saw a little bit of a run on quarterbacks in the third round with two of them coming to the NFC South.

Sam Howell out of North Carolina, however, is still on the board and could be of interest to the Saints.

Once thought of a potential option to go No. 1 overall prior to the 2021 college football season, Howell lost a lot of key players and regressed as a result. He quickly fell down the draft boards but he’s someone I wouldn’t mind NOLA adding, especially if he could be had in the fifth round.

The Saints spent a fourth-round pick on Ian Book in last year’s draft so that’s perhaps a reason they won’t spend another Day 3 pick on a signal-caller. If Howell slides to round five, though, it feels like fate for the black and gold to grab him.

Howell can offer both an accurate passer and also someone who can make plays happen with his legs. He’s worth spending a pick on if he continues to fall down the draft board.
