3 positions the NOLA Saints should target on Day 2 of 2022 NFL Draft
By Najy Masri
Quarterback
The NOLA Saints had their choice of both Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis with both of their first-round selections in Thursday’s first round and elected not to draft either signal-caller. However, this does not necessarily mean the Saints wouldn’t select one in the second round if the fit and value are right.
It is unlikely that Malik Willis would still be available when the Saints are on the clock but he is certainly someone the Saints should consider dipping into next year’s draft capital to move up for if he were to reach a spot in the draft where the cost acquisition would be fairly minimal.
Other quarterbacks that New Orleans should consider at pick 49 would be…
- Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati)
- Matt Corral (Ole Miss)
- Sam Howell (North Carolina)
New Orleans spent time with Ridder at his Cincinnati pro day as his ability to read defenses and his ability to make quick decisions would mesh well with a Pete Carmichael offense.
Corral shredded SEC defenses this past season and is someone whose decisiveness and quick release are appealing to modern NFL offenses.
Howell came into the year as a projected early Day 1 selection but struggled this past season. However, his competitiveness stands out on film and his overall intelligence is exemplified by his 34 Wonderlic score, which was the second highest among all NFL draft eligible quarterbacks this year, per 247 Sports.

The Saints aced Day 1 of this year’s NFL draft and getting one of the above players would go a long way in establishing a continued pattern of success under new head coach Dennis Allen.
