After failing to put on a killer performance to land a big deal in his contract year, Tre’Quan Smith is back in the Big Easy to try to right the ship this year. He’s currently slated to be the starting slot receiver in New Orleans but that could easily change.

If the Saints opt to spend an early-round pick on a wide receiver, Smith is the easy option to demote to second-string. He was a former third-round pick in 2018 but failed to live up to expectations during his first four years in the league.

With Smith returning to NOLA, he has a rare shot at redemption with the team that drafted him but it might not happen if the team ends up landing Garrett Wilson out of Ohio State. Wilson could be the starting slot receiver in New Orleans and he’d present a much better option at the position than what Smith can provide.

Smith has a lot to lose in the 2022 NFL Draft but the good news for fans is that he’s better suited in a backup role anyway.
