Michael Thomas

I know. This is a big surprise.

While I fully understand that the Saints have Michael Thomas locked up until 2025, I also understand that the wide receiver market is now vastly changing. We all know the situation with Thomas that occurred last season when he missed the whole season with an injury that could have been resolved in the offseason, which frustrated Saints coaches and fans.

Thomas will have a lot to prove to re-earn the trust from Who Dat Nation this season, but my concern is that regardless of the season he has- he could be on the way out the door.

If Thomas has a down season, the Saints may look to package him in a trade to dump his contract and add some talent on the free-agent market going into 2023.

If Thomas has a huge year, he could do what Deebo Samuel is doing and what Tyreek Hill already did and force the Saints to release or trade him so he can make more money.

2022 is the year for wide receivers to finally earn the money that they deserve, but unfortunately, that could wind up hurting the Saints and could cause them to be forced to move on from their star wide receiver. I don’t want the Saints to depart from Michael Thomas, but the writing appears to be on the wall with the way the wide receiver market is shaping to be.
