Starters: Demario Davis and Pete Werner

I already mentioned how rock solid Demario Davis and Pete Werner were during the 2021 season but we’ll dive a little more into detail here.

Davis was a third-round pick by the Jets in the 2012 draft and played in the Big Apple for the first five of his six years in the league. He had a random year in Cleveland but then returned to the Jets for the 2017 season before joining the Saints in 2018. He’s remained in the black and gold ever since and has been one of their best free-agent signings of all time.

Davis is not only durable but he’s a tackling machine, notching over 100 tackles in each of his four seasons in the Big Easy. He’s been an excellent addition to this defense and it’s hard to imagine the Saints D without him in it.

As for Werner, he was likely the Saints’ attempt at hitting the reset button on Zack Baun who didn’t play as a rookie (more on him in a bit). Werner was NOLA’s second-round pick last year out of Ohio State and he was fantastic as a rookie.

The Ohio State product appeared in 15 games and made eight starts and tallied 62 tackles and one QB hit during that time. He fit in perfectly with this group and fans are hoping he’ll improve even more in year two.

These two linebackers are solid and give NOLA a dynamic duo.
