Third-Stringers: Carl Granderson, Malcolm Roach, Jaleel Johnson, Taco Charlton

The Saints have always been able to find gems who went undrafted and Carl Granderson looked to be another one of those guys. Granderson went undrafted in 2019 out of Wyoming and had five sacks during the 2020 season. While his sack total dipped to three in 2021, he was still effective when he was on the field.

Malcolm Roach is another UDFA gem who joined the Saints and has given them a nice player on defense. His sophomore season in the pros wasn’t as impressive as what he did as a rookie but he still had 10 tackles and two QB hits during his seven games.

Jaleel Johnson was a fourth-round pick by the Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft and he spent the first four years of his career in Minnesota. He played for the Texans in 2021 and notched 23 tackles and one QB hit through 12 games.

Taco Charlton joined the team this offseason after spending the past four seasons with four different teams. It’s safe to say that Charlton didn’t live up to his first-round status but he might be able to make an impact with this defense if he’s used in the correct way.

Not all of these guys are guaranteed to make the final roster but they have this summer to prove if they can contribute.
