RB3: Tony Jones Jr.

The talk of the town during the 2021 preseason was running back Tony Jones Jr., who many Saints fans were hoping would get a chance to stick around on the regular-season roster. That ended up happening, as Jones’ impressive performance during the preseason was enough to earn him a roster spot while Latavius Murray was released.

Jones didn’t end up doing much with his opportunity, however, despite appearing in 11 games. He rushed for a lackluster 142 yards and failed to find the end zone. He did get injured and missed some time but it was a disappointment to not see Jones replicate what he had done during the preseason.

The Notre Dame product went undrafted and landed with the Saints in 2020, appearing in one game that year and rushing for 13 yards on three carries.

While he didn’t show much this year, there’s hope that Jones can bounce back and show why he was deserving of a roster spot. If NOLA drafts a running back, however, his spot with the team could be in jeopardy.
