QB3: Ian Book
With Blake Bortles asking to be released, Ian Book‘s roster spot is safe… for now at least.
The Saints spent a fourth-round pick on Book in last year’s draft and it never felt like there was much intention to play him during the course of his rookie year. As we all know, however, Book was thrust into the starting role when the quarterback room all tested positive for COVID-19.
Book’s first start didn’t go well but it’s hard to blame him too much considering everything that went wrong. The Fighting Irish product went 12-of-20 for 135 yards with two interceptions but was also sacked eight times. While eight sacks is an eyesore to look at on the stat sheet, Book added a few of those sacks by not getting rid of the football and trying to play hero ball.
Saints fans shouldn’t look too much into this start with how everything was stacked against Book but he definitely has a lot to prove this summer.
If New Orleans opts to draft a quarterback, Book’s spot on the roster is most definitely in jeopardy. For now, however, he’s the likely QB3 entering the season.
