New Orleans Saints QB depth chart ahead of 2022 NFL Draft
The New Orleans Saints could be looking to add a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, especially after the trade they made with the Eagles that gave them a second first-round selection.
Before the draft kicks off in a few weeks, let’s take a look at the Saints’ quarterback depth chart and discuss what each of these players’ roles might be as we enter the first year of the Dennis Allen era.
QB1: Jameis Winston
After “missing out” on Deshaun Watson, the Saints rightfully turned their attention to re-signing Jameis Winston, who has spent the past two seasons in the black and gold.
Winston, a former No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, spent the first five years of his career in Tampa Bay before they moved on to Tom Brady. Winston then signed with the Saints as a backup for the 2020 season and sat behind Drew Brees, not seeing much playing time that year.
After Brees retired, however, Winston re-signed with the team and won the starting job over Taysom Hill. He went on to start seven games last year and threw for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three picks while dashing for another 166 yards and a score with his legs.
Winston wasn’t perfect during his seven games but there were absolutely glimpses of improvement from him, starting with his interception numbers. He’s coming off of an injury but if Brees is right, Winston should be able to do great things as the starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints in 2022.
