The New Orleans Saints need a wide receiver. This isn’t new information. D.K. Metcalf may or may not be on the trade block but he won’t come cheap and that’s why the black and gold should steer clear.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report put together a few different potential trade packages that could be sent to the Seahawks in exchange for Metcalf. He included the Saints on this list and said that for them to land the wide receiver, they’d need two first-round picks from NOLA. Now, it’s worth noting that Sobleski wrote this article before New Orleans added another first-round pick in this year’s draft, so keep that in mind.

Sobleski has the Saints shipping off the No. 18 overall pick along with next year’s first-rounder to trade for the Seahawks wide receiver. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

"Metcalf immediately adds a home-run threat on the outside. Thomas posted monster numbers earlier in his career, but he’s never been considered a consistent vertical option. The two could play off each other nicely and give Winston the type of support, with Alvin Kamara, for the 2015 No. 1 overall pick to thrive."

It’s no secret that the Saints need a wide receiver and Metcalf, paired with Michael Thomas, would make the NOLA offense downright scary, especially with Jameis Winston now back in town. That doesn’t mean it’s a great idea for New Orleans to go down this route, however.

Saints Rumors: D.K. Metcalf isn’t worth selling the farm for

While the Saints have a huge need at wide receiver, they can find an explosive option at the position in the 2022 NFL Draft and they wouldn’t even necessarily have to use their first-round pick on one. This year’s wide receiver draft class is loaded and New Orleans has other needs they could spend with both of their first-round picks.

If the Saints did opt to spend a first-round pick on a receiver, however, no one would be mad about it. From Jameson Williams to Chris Olave to Garrett Wilson to Treylon Burks, there are plenty of options early on for the black and gold if they do decide to spend their round one pick on a wideout.

Don’t get me wrong — Metcalf is an awesome receiver but those draft picks could be spent on other key talents that the team also needs.
