3 of the smartest moves the Saints have made in free agency so far

1. Re-signing Jameis Winston
The smartest move that the New Orleans Saints have made this offseason is keeping Jameis Winston in the Big Easy. It took some time, as the Saints’ pursuing of Deshaun Watson delayed Winston’s eventual re-signing with the team he’s spent the past two years with.
It always felt like New Orleans was going to bring back Winston, even when they were going after Watson. Winston backed up Drew Brees in 2020 and then won the starting quarterback job in 2021 after beating Taysom Hill for the gig.

So after missing out on Deshaun Watson, New Orleans turns to an old friend at QB.
Winston might not have been playing like a rockstar before his Week 8 injury that sidelined him for the rest of the year but he showed improvement from when he was the starter in Tampa Bay. Winston threw just three interceptions through seven games while tossing 14 touchdowns.
Is Winston a top 10 quarterback in the NFL?
No.
What Winston provides, however, is a solid quarterback who can keep the Saints in games. Their roster is built to win on the defensive side of the ball and their offense is designed to pack more of a punch in the run game.
