3 things NOLA Saints must do now that Jameis Winston is coming back
The NOLA Saints finally found their quarterback for the 2022 (and 2023) season, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with Jameis Winston worth $28 million. The deal was a long time coming for both sides but the important thing is that it finally got done.
With Winston now coming back to the Saints, what does the team need to do to ensure that he succeeds? He was playing well in 2021 before his season-ending injury but there was more the organization could have done to help him out in his first year as a starter since he was in Tampa.
Here are three things that the Saints must do now that Winston is back in the black and gold.
3. Get the offensive line figured out
We know what four of the five starting spots on the Saints’ offensive line will look like unless the team surprises us and doesn’t hand Andrus Peat and Cesar Ruiz the starting guard jobs. The only position up in the air right now is left tackle, as Terron Armstead is a free agent and will be expensive to bring back.
If Armstead doesn’t come back to the Big Easy, the Saints need to figure out who will be protecting Winston’s blindside. James Hurst could be an option as could Landon Young but if they don’t elect to go with an in-house option, they need to then figure out who is going to replace Armstead.
Getting protection for Winston is important for this team but there are two other things the team needs to do as well.
