2. Jimmy Garoppolo

Once the Watson news drops, the Jimmy Garoppolo sweepstakes will get hot again. It feels like the Colts would make sense to land Garoppolo (or Mayfield, for that matter), but if the 49ers are willing to trade him within the NFC, the Saints could be a good spot for Jimmy G.

Garoppolo isn’t the best quarterback in the league but he wins games and that’s important for a defensive-heavy team like New Orleans. Garoppolo was the quarterback of the 49ers when they reached the Super Bowl in the 2019 season and did enough not to lose games while the run game and defense did their thing.

I’m skeptical about the Saints trading for Garoppolo for a few reasons but the biggest is his lengthy injury history. When he’s healthy, he wins games, but that’s a big if. Is it worth trading several draft picks for a guy who isn’t durable?

If the Saints were to land Garoppolo, they’d have a decent quarterback and would make some noise. At the end of the day though, the risks might outweigh the benefits.
