3 young players the Saints might have to trade for Deshaun Watson
1. Marcus Davenport
One of the most likely names that could be sent to Houston in exchange for Deshaun Watson is Marcus Davenport. New Orleans surprised a lot of people by trading up to draft Davenport in the 2018 draft and until this past season, he didn’t live up to that first-round hype.
In 2021, however, Davenport exploded onto the scene, notching nine sacks and 16 QB hits. The Saints took a risk by picking up Davenport’s fifth-year option and it paid off, as he played incredibly well in what would have been the final year of his rookie deal.
If Watson wants to go to New Orleans and the Texans agree to send him there, Davenport is someone they’d be interested in acquiring. He’s a young, up-and-coming pass-rusher who is entering the final year of his contract. That’d give them a chance to sign him to an extension of their own and have a prominent pass-rusher on their defense.
If the New Orleans Saints are the team Deshaun Watson picks to play for in 2022 and beyond, expect at least one of these three young players to be a part of the package to make the deal happen.
