Saints Free Agency: 6 injury-prone free agents that are worth the risk
5. JuJu Smith-Schuster
This one probably falls into the unlikely category, as JuJu Smith-Schuster might be too expensive for New Orleans. Be that as it may, there’s no doubt that he could come in and make this offense better.
Smith-Schuster appeared in just five games for the Steelers last year and while he did return in time for the playoffs, it’s something that could scare teams away in free agency. Through the five games he did appear in, Smith-Schuster managed five catches for 129 yards. His best season was in 2018 when he had 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 2020 season, however, was when Smith-Schuster recorded a career-high in touchdowns, with nine. He’s someone who, paired with Michael Thomas, could take the top off of defenses and make this Saints offense much better, especially if they find a decent quarterback.
The injuries in 2021 are concerning but the former USC Trojan never missed more games than he did in 2021. He missed four in 2019 and two during his rookie season in 2017 so injuries haven’t always been an issue with him.
