2. Tre’Quan Smith

New Orleans needed a wide receiver to step up this past season, especially with Michael Thomas on the shelf for the entire year. Tre’Quan Smith was expected to be that guy but he failed to step up and seize the WR1 title not just this season, but in any of his seasons with the Saints.

Now Smith is a free agent and while the Saints could re-sign him to a short deal, I’m hoping they move on and try to find a better option or two in the draft. Maybe Smith’s poor production in 2021 was due to being injured at the start of the season. He makes some crazy catches sometimes but that’s not a big enough reason to bring him back.

Smith has been a WR3 at best during his time at the league and the Saints will have Marquez Callaway in that role in 2022. If they re-sign Smith, he’ll be a WR4/5, so why not find that late in the draft?

It was a bummer that Smith never blossomed into the kind of receiver New Orleans was expecting him to be and the team shouldn’t give him another opportunity.
