1. Jeff Heath

The free agent that fans would miss the least is safety, Jeff Heath. Now, to be clear, nobody expected Heath to be a major impact defensively. His role in New Orleans was definitely to contribute on special teams and that’s where he saw the majority of his playing time.

Heath spent the first seven years of his career with the Cowboys before signing with the Raiders in 2020 and then the Saints in 2021.

The 30-year-old safety (turning 31 in May) appeared in 16 regular-season games and only saw time at defense in four of them. Ultimately, you want your players to be able to step in and play a bigger role if called upon and that’s where Heath probably isn’t the best option to have moving forward, especially with an increasing need at safety if Marcus Williams leaves and Malcolm Jenkins is cut to save money.

Casual fans probably don’t even know who Heath is and while he played okay on special teams, not retaining him wouldn’t be something that would upset the fan base.
