4. Carolina Panthers

Despite what some say, the Carolina Panthers don’t have a ton of flexibility when it comes to the quarterback position. They screwed the pooch by trading for Sam Darnold and now they’re in a situation where if they don’t start him, they’re wasting a ton of money.

With that said, however, I’m not ruling Carolina out of the Winston sweepstakes. Darnold failed to show that the Panthers made the right decision in trading for him and they could be looking for an upgrade at the position, especially with Matt Rhule on the hot seat.

The Panthers have Christian McCaffrey but that’s about it. There’s not a ton to really like about playing quarterback there and Rhule being near the end of his leash in Carolina doesn’t make the situation much better.

If Winston did sign with the Panthers, it’d mean he’s played for three of the four teams in the NFC South so that’d be a fun angle. I doubt Winston ends up in Carolina considering their predicament with Darnold and holding a top-10 pick in the draft, but if they’re desperate enough, this could be something that happens.
