Round 3: Pick 100 – John Metchie III, WR (Alabama)
If the Saints are going to wait until the third round to take a wide receiver, then ideally they’d have already added one in free agency to pair with Michael Thomas. Some think it’s the biggest need on the team entering the offseason and it’s not hard to see why if you watched the offense throughout the 2021 season.
John Metchie III out of Alabama would be an incredible pick in the third round though. The Crimson Tide wideout totaled an astounding 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns during the 2021 season that saw Alabama fall just short of a National Championship title.
The year before, Metchie hauled in 55 catches for 916 yards and six scores, proving that he isn’t just a one-year wonder.
Metchie’s the best pick on the board in round three and he’d give New Orleans the kind of weapon they’ve been coveting. They fix their offensive line holes with their first two picks and then continue addressing the offense by adding a wide receiver in round three.
I’d be okay with the draft panning out this way even if it would be a little unexpected. Two offensive linemen and waiting until the third round to take a receiver would be weird but this organization likes to surprise us on draft weekend so this feels like it could actually play out this way.
How would you feel about this draft, Saints fans?
