Rewind back to the 2019 season for a moment. Nick Foles went down for the Jaguars in Week 1 of the regular season and in stepped rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew, who went on to take the league by storm that year.

Minshew played well as a rookie and ultimately, it led to Foles getting traded out of Jacksonville in the 2020 offseason. Unfortunately for Minshew, the fun stopped in 2020. He battled injuries and wasn’t as good but one could argue that the talent in Jacksonville was also pretty bad.

The Jaguars landed the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and took Trevor Lawrence, essentially dooming Minshew’s chances at starting this past season. He was traded to the Eagles where he appeared in four games and made two starts total. Minshew threw for 439 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception during that time.

Minshew is under contract for the 2022 season but he’s a bargain and someone New Orleans could actually afford. Spotrac has him set to make $2.5 million this season and that’s a deal the Saints could absolutely swing.

Now, is Minshew the long-term answer in the Big Easy? Probably not, but he’s one of the best remaining options they have for the 2022 season at the most important position.
