The Saints’ head coaching job feels like Dennis Allen’s to lose at this point. Allen, who has been the organization as their defensive coordinator since 2015, has been linked to the vacant position since Sean Payton announced his decision to step away and for good reason.

Not only has Allen turned the defense into one of the best in the league but he showed that he could be the head coach when Payton could not coach due to testing positive for COVID-19. In that game, NOLA shut out the Buccaneers 9-0.

Sure it was only one game but Allen is a respected name in the locker room and the players would likely be thrilled to have him take over for Payton. Some might point to his not-so-great record during his time with the Raiders but that was nearly a decade ago and Allen has learned a lot since then.

With Allen only interviewing with one other team, it feels like he’ll eventually be the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
