1. Cesar Ruiz

The most unpopular player on the Saints’ roster is probably right guard Cesar Ruiz, who struggled in his second season as a pro. Ruiz was the team’s first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and didn’t look so hot during his rookie season.

The hope was that he’d come into his own in year two but that didn’t happen either. It felt like Ruiz was missing defenders and whiffing on blocks all season long and he was definitely the weak link in the original starting line.

The other four starters missed time at one point but Ruiz was healthy throughout, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. Fans were hoping Ruiz could improve this season but the guy never did.

With two years remaining on his rookie deal, Ruiz still has to prove himself if he wants to get his fifth-year option picked up after next season. As of now, I’m not too optimistic that that’ll happen.
