1. Marcus Davenport

Saints fans had essentially written Marcus Davenport off due to his lackluster first three seasons in the league. The former first-round pick who the organization traded up for to land didn’t show much, totaling just 12 sacks in his first three seasons. He nearly passed that entire number in just one season, tallying nine total sacks through 11 games in 2021.

New Orleans rose some eyebrows when electing to pick up Davenport’s fifth-year option and now they look really smart for doing so. Had they not done so, the UTSA pass-rusher would have been slated for free agency and it’d have been hard for NOLA to retain him with the season he just had.

With Davenport in the Big Easy for one more year, he’ll have to have another impressive season if he wants to land a nice contract in the 2023 offseason.

The Saints benefit either way and it was good to see Davenport prove that he was worthy of going in the first round four years ago.
