1. Running Back

Recent trends have shown that NFL teams don’t value running backs as much as they used to. It’s rare for teams to spend a first-round pick on a running back these days because those guys can be found later on in the draft or after the draft has concluded.

Alvin Kamara was a third-round pick by the team in 2017 and he’s been sensational. The team will also have Mark Ingram (who was taken in the first round when it was still acceptable to take a running back that early) in 2022, meaning their two starting options will be returning. It’d be silly to spend a pick on a running back with that in mind. They’ll also have Tony Jones Jr. next year as well.

Ty Montgomery and Dwayne Washington are the only running backs slated to hit free agency and neither is a guy the team needs to make it a point to re-sign. Washington has been a special teams player during his time with the team and Montgomery offers versatility with what position he can play but neither is a must re-sign name.

If New Orleans spent a draft pick on a running back, fans wouldn’t be happy.

These are really the only three positions the team should stay away from drafting this year. Tight end has been a weakness but the team might not find a better option in the draft and Trautman could still turn things around (as funny as that sounds).
