2. Linebacker

A year ago, there might not have been a bigger need on the Saints’ defense than linebacker. Demario Davis was returning and we all know how good he is but Zack Baun was coming off a disappointing rookie campaign.

New Orleans selected Ohio State linebacker Pete Werner in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and the Buckeye defender has been sensational. His rookie season is what the organization hoped to see from Baun but Werner has proven he is starting material moving forward.

Even when Werner has had to miss time, Kwon Alexander has played well in his return season. He re-signed with the Saints this offseason and the hope is that the team can keep him in the Big Easy again in 2022 though he might be able to land more money elsewhere.

Even if Alexander leaves, New Orleans isn’t set to lose any other linebackers. Davis and Werner will return as the starters and guys like Andrew Dowell and Kaden Elliss have impressed enough this season.

Fans wouldn’t be upset if the team spent an early-round pick on a linebacker but it went from being a major question mark to now being one of the best positions on the roster.
