Round 6: Pick 214 – Micheal Clemons, EDGE (Texas A&M)

At this point of the mock draft, the Saints are mostly going best available and Micheal Clemons was the best available when New Orleans was on the clock in the sixth round. With the 214th pick, they add the Texas A&M EDGE rusher, who had seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss through 10 games in 2021.

As mentioned with Williams on the previous slide, the Saints aren’t hurting in the pass-rushing department but adding yet another guy who is no stranger to getting after the quarterback would only make them stronger. Maybe Clemons isn’t someone we see much of but he’s the best available player here and could make a strong pass-rush even better.

Nittany Lions . Ellis Brooks. 229. player. 806. . Linebacker

Tackling is a necessity in the NFL but it’s something players still struggle with. Ellis Brooks of Penn State knows no such struggle, however, as he had 100 total tackles with the Nittany Lions in 2021. If nothing else, Brooks is a tackling machine and those are the kind of guys who find their way onto the practice squad and end up sticking around in the NFL.

The Saints are slated to lose Kwon Alexander to free agency but Demario Davis and Pete Werner are both returning as starters. Brooks wouldn’t be a starter but being able to wrap up playmakers and bring them down isn’t a talent to overlook. That’s why he’d make a great addition to this defense in 2022.

These players were picked based on need but also sitting as the best player available, which was the instance with the final three picks. Every player in this group, however, is someone we could all envision with the Saints and this is a team that has to hit on their draft picks due to not having a lot of money to play with in free agency.
