Saints News: Ian Book is going to make his NFL debut in Week 16
Well, shortly after Who Dat Dish’s post about New Orleans Saints quarterback Ian Book slated to be the backup this weekend published, news surfaced about Taysom Hill also being placed on the COVID-19 list. This means Book is in line to make his NFL debut on Monday night when the Dolphins come to town.
Book was active for just one other game this season, which came the week after Jameis Winston was lost for the season. Now, with Trevor Siemian and Hill both on the COVID-19 list, Book will get a chance to show what he can do for the Saints.
Book was a fourth-round pick by the Saints in this year’s draft and has been buried on the depth chart to this point. Even when Siemian was starting and Hill was too injured to be an offensive weapon, Book was inactive, which made no sense.
Saints News: It’s Ian Book time!
It’ll be a good opportunity for Book on Monday, as he can show if he’s worth keeping around for the future. New Orleans could be in a spot to take a quarterback in the early rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft but if Book plays well, perhaps they punt on a weak quarterback draft class and go with the Notre Dame product instead.
While it’s possible that Book starts this week and then we don’t hear from him again, it’s good to see the rookie quarterback finally get a chance to show what he can do.
This is a big game for New Orleans and if Book rises to the occasion and leads the team to victory, that could go a long way in determining his future in the Big Easy.
