Defensive MVP – Marcus Davenport

Many of the Who Dat faithful have already written off Marcus Davenport as a first-round draft bust. So far this season, however, Davenport is doing his best to kick that “bust” reputation to the curb and play at an elite level on the opposite side of the perennially great Cameron Jordan.

For the second straight week, the defensive line as a complete unit struggled to get consistent pressure on Titans’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the passing game. Davenport’s second-half play was just enough to keep the Saints in the game for yet another (failed) comeback.

On his first sack of the game, which came in the third quarter, Davenport absolutely bulldozed Titan’s 310-pound left tackle Kendall Lamm into Tannehill for the sack. The sack forced the Titans to punt the ball from their own 47-yard line.

The second sack of the game came in the red zone, which ultimately is the difference between a short-and-goal scoring opportunity on fourth down or a field goal that the Titans were forced to settle on.

Much like the rest of the Saints, Davenport’s first-half play needed to pick up the pace. However, all-in-all, he was a bright spot finishing with two quarterback hits, two sacks, and an additional tackle against the run game.

Marcus Davenport is your Defensive MVP for Week 10.
